It's the third day of the congress and I get the impression
people are happy wujs politics are over now and the lectures are
taking place.
We have to register for one of the following subjects, which as
I think is really amazing, because every one finds his field of
interests (especially if you consider the evenings events as well).
» Global language of diplomaca
» Professional track
» Jewish Identity
» Zionism 2020
» Global jewish business exchange
» special programm for spanish speakers (where i unfortunately
don't belong to ;-( )
Nevertheless my choice is clear: I go for the business track, since
first of all I am very interested in this field, it's a new subject
on jewish students congresses and finally in Switzerland I don't
get too much information about what's going on in that field (compared
to the USA or IL).
09:30
For the opening of the second part of the congress still are
participants have a first topic together: Israel and the Media,
Israel and its Hasbara Strategy.
The Ministery of foreign affairs of Israel is represented by Zavi
Apelbaum, Director of its public affairs department. He stresses
out that there is the perspective of two coalitions: The modarete
and the radical. While the EU, USA and western oriented arab states
are counted into the moderate coalition, the fundamental states
such as Iran, Syria and the Palestinians belong to the radical
coalition. Israels job towards the media is now to show that Israel
as well is part of the moderate groutp.
The next speaker is David Baker, senior foreign press coordinator
for the PM's office. He discribes his work, his various relations
to the press. Further he shows how he is reacting to wrong, one-
sided and simpe type of journalism.
11:30
Start of the tracks. My lecture is hold by Emanuel Navon. He presents
the new Israeli economy with its strong growth. This development
is mainly because of Israels strenght in higher technology. Navon
gives some very positive economic background infos and shows us
on the other hand how harmful boycotts and bad reputation for the
Israeli economy potentially might be.
16:30
After lunch old by Emanuel Navon. It's now about diplomacy and
about how to react on false pretences about Israel.
18:00
I manage to have a chat with Jonny Clein, wujs executive director,
about the concept how to stabilise and improve the financial situation
of wujs. Jonny states that wujs will try in the future to become
more professiona. The general approach should be to handle wujs
as business: being more customer oriented and building up a better
network for wujs. As one example Jonny mentiones this congress where
there are several tracks to choose the lectures from and a better
sponsorship network.
